FAQs

Q. So, what is up with all these abbreviations--DQP, HIO, UHP?
A. Well, firstly the DQP abbreviation stands for Designated Qualified Person. This official is the person who will inspect your horse before you go into the show ring. He/she will also check the winner of the class upon exiting the show ring. They are there for you and your horse's protection, making sure the horse is sound. The DQP will inspect for evidence of illegal training practices and injuries that may harm the horse. Secondly, HIO stands for Horse Industry Organization that follows the rules and regulations of the HPA-Horse Protection Act. Our UHP-United Horse Protection is a division of the HIO and has been formed by United Mountain Horse, Inc.
