Q My horse’s registered name is different in his two registrations (with RMHA and KMSHA). I would like to choose a third name for his AGMH registration. Is this permitted?
A When a horse presents for registration with AGMH having different registered names (regardless of registries involved), AGMH requires the owner to choose a name from those s/he is already registered under. If a horse has only one registered name and the owner wishes to change the name, s/he may do so if the horse has not been bred or shown in any Mountain Horse show. There is a $20.00 name change fee.
Q I have a MPHA mare that I want to breed to a RMHA stallion. Does she have to be AGMH in order for me to register her foal AGMH?
A No. Neither parent is required to be AGMH. DNA proving parentage to the foal’s Heritage Ancestry will be required for AGMH registration of the foal.
Q Why would I want to register my breeding stock AGMH if their foals can be registered AGMH without the parents’ being AGMH?
A AGMH includes all of a horse’s Mountain Horse registries on one certificate, along with accomplishments in showing, other competitive events, and significant breeding merits, such as a World Champion offspring. Thus, AGMH can help you plan you breeding program. The Merit Program reflects accomplishments in AAA UMH shows. Additionally, there are classes at designated UMH shows that are open to AGMH horses only. Of course, registration as Foundation Stock carries its own potential value.
Q I have a TWH mare that I have bred to a double registered RMHA/KMSHA stallion. Can I register the baby AGMH?
A Yes, based on the foal proving parentage to 50% Heritage Ancestry by DNA through a sharing Registry. This foal would receive Silver AGMH papers and have full breeding privileges.
Q Why don’t you certify horses?
A AGMH is based strictly on bloodline. Most of the horses registered in AGMH are or will be certified by one of the Designated Mountain Horse Registries. For those who elect not to obtain permanent papers with one of the Designated Mountain Horse Registries, their Heritage Ancestry bloodlines highlighted on the AGMH certificate reflect their percentage of Mountain Horse lineage.
Q My grade RMHA mare has fully registered RMHA papers, but she was registered grade because her dam was not certified at the time of conception. Will my mare get Silver AGMH papers or Gold AGMH papers?
A If your mare is able to show by DNA through a sharing registry that her sire and dam are fully registered RMHA, she will receive the gold with star AGMH papers, reflecting her full Mountain bloodlines.
